Bannerwoman's Lace Tutorial

This is a tutorial I came up with for creating lace. I have seen a lot
more beautiful lace in my time digital scrapbooking, but it's just a result
I got from trying to actually produce my OWN lace. I hope you find
this helpful.
Materials Needed:
-
PSP 8 (This is what I used, it may work just as well
in earlier or later versions.)
-
Greg's Filter Output v.II
-
Patience.....I am not the greatest tutorial writer! :O)
Lets Get Started:
1. Open a new image. 4"x4", 150-200ppi, and transparent
background.
2. Choose a color for your lace, and flood fill the canvas with
that color.
3. Go to effects/reflection effects/pattern and use these settings.

4. Now go to effects/reflection effects/kaleidoscope. Use
these settings, or anything else you like.

5. Now go to effects/plug-ins/Greg's factory output v.II/Pool
Shadow and
use these settings.

6. Now use PSP 8's seamless tile. (You can also use
Simple's/Quick Tile, or 20/20, any of your favorite seamless programs will
do.) I used these settings.

7. Go to selections/select all.
8. Go to selections/modify/select selections borders and use these
settings.

9. Flood fill the selection made by step 8 with the color you
choose for your lace. Now go to selections/promote selections to
layer. KEEP THIS BORDER SELECTED.
10. Now go to image/canvas size and use these settings.

11. While you still have your selection for your promoted
selection, go to effects/3d effects/inner bevel and use these settings.

12. Now select none. Still on your promoted layer go to
effects/geometric effects/wave and use these settings.
(Wave may be found under distortion effects depending on how
you have your psp set up.)

13. Change to your raster layer, and add the same wave as above.
14. Now right click on your raster layer and duplicate. You
should now have three layers. Your Raster Layer 1, you Copy of Raster
Layer 1, and the Promoted Selection Layer.
15. On the copy of the raster layer, go to effects/geometric
effects/wave and use these settings.

16. Go to your promoted selection layer, and using your selection
tool (magic wand), click inside the beveled frame we made. Then go to
selections/modify/contract and use 2px.
17. Now go back to your copy of raster layer and hit the delete
key. This will leave only the 'frayed' edge. Select None.
18. Now duplicate this later again, giving you a copy of copy of
raster layer, and move this edge slightly away from the first copy, giving
you a fuller edge. You will have to move it 1 or 2px to the left, and
then up or down till you think it looks ok.
19. I merged all the visible layers, and then added a drop shadow.
That's it. Here is the final project. I hope this gives you
some ideas to play with, I know I spent hours on it. You could
skip all the wave steps and flood fill a side border with your result, etc.
Then add a wave, there are all kinds of possibilities! :O)

This is the same swatch of lace, with a very small weave added
(effects/texture effects/weave) using white, and then a slight bevel, and
drop shadow.
