Bannerwoman's Ribbon Tutorial
This is the way I make my ribbons. I hope someone
else might find this of some use. I generally make mine grayscale,
that way they can be colored to my liking. That part is up to you.
Again, this is just a guideline, and I hope you take more from this
tutorial. Have fun.
Tools required to complete this tutorial:
-
PSP (I use 8, but I am sure it would be very similar in other versions.)
-
Greg's Factory
Output VII - Download and install before opening PSP.
Ok, lets get started.
1. Open a new image, 12''x4'' and 150dpi.
2. Choose the selection tool
. Then look for
this button in the tools palette.
. This will allow
you to make a custom selection. Choose these settings.

You should have what now looks like this.

This is the exact center part of this canvas.
3. Choose your flood fill tool
and flood fill your canvas
with any color you like. I used #FF11AE.
4. Now with your marching ants still in place go to Effects/Texture
Effects/Blinds and apply these settings:

5. Now go to Effects/Texture Effects/Mosaic Antique and apply these
settings:

6. Now apply Greg's Factory Outlet/ Pool Shadow, should be found in
your plug-ins as long as you downloaded and installed it before opening PSP.
This is the setting I used:

7. Now we have our main ribbon.....If you want you can stop here
and save this if you want a straight ribbon, I will go on to give the ribbon
a bit of a wave, and then some 'fringes'.
8. To add a bit of a wave to the overall ribbon, I use
Effects/Geometric Effects/Wave with these settings, you can adjust to
whatever wavelength you would like:

9. Now to get the fringes I duplicate the main layer, by right
clicking on that layer and clicking duplicate:

10. Then move the copy of Raster 1 to the bottom, below the Raster
1:

11. Now go to Effects/Geometric Effects/Wave again and use these
settings:

12. The final step is to merge these two layers into one, by going
to layers/merge/merge visible:

That's it. Now you can add a drop shadow or whatever when you use
it. Like I said in the beginning of this tutorial, you can make
several different shades of greyscale images, and just colorize them to the
color you are using in your layout, etc.
Here is the final product:

Happy Scrapping!
